The Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds. RCHC is recruiting three full-time, contract Youth Summer Program Assistant Worker(s) to carry out program planning, outreach activities and general administrative support.
Responsibilities and Related Tasks
- Assist with the overall design and implementation of the youth and summer program using a youth centred and youth informed approach.
- Assist in developing youth-friendly recruitment posters, training curriculum and tools
- Supports in the creating, planning, implementing and delivering of various activities and workshops for youth
- Create and support the facilitation of in-person programming
- Coordinate workshops, activities, and games (field trips and special outings)
- Help develop, set up and maintain virtual platforms and in-person space for programming needs
- Be involved in data collection, data analysis, resource and report writing and dissemination
- Provide regular reports to the Manager of Youth and Family Services to reflect the goals and timelines of the programs
- Represent the project on external committees where appropriate
- Promote the program, its mandate and activities to the greater community
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Support program staff, volunteers and participants
- Develop and implement evaluation tools
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
- 1-2 years of post-secondary education or a related field or of the equivalent experience
- Demonstrates commitment to a teamwork approach
- Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
- An understanding of the strength and capacities of youth as well as barriers and challenges faced by youth in the Rexdale community
- Is sensitive to the needs of youth and youth-led organizations and empathetic to youth challenges
- Experience in planning and delivering successful informal programming for youth
- An understanding of issues affecting the diverse populations of Rexdale, including general issues affecting low-income communities
- An understanding of the strength and capacities of the barriers and challenges faced by youth with a particular focus on factors affecting educational success and personal development of students from diverse cultural backgrounds in low-income communities
- Experience with small group dynamics and facilitation appropriate to youth and adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of community and social service resources for youth
