Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a problem that can affect the eyes of people who have diabetes and could lead to blindness. But blindness can be prevented if detected and treated early.

Approximately one-third of Ontarians with diabetes do not receive retinal screening.

Rexdale CHC is excited to offer FREE Eye Screening to clients with Diabetes, including those without OHIP, if they meet the following criteria:

  • Diagnosis of diabetes (Type 1, 2 or gestational or pregnant with diabetes)
  • Referral from a physician or nurse practitioner
  • Has not had an eye exam that involves dilation of pupils within the past 12 months

The Screening is done by Registered Nurses at our Centre
The images are sent securely to a specialist, who reviews the images, provides a diagnosis and recommendations on follow-up, if required.
A copy of the report will be faxed to your Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner.
