The Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds. RCHC, in partnership with Rexdale Food Access Committee, is recruiting 3 staff to assist the Urban Harvest Rexdale Program (full-time contracts) to work with local homeowners who indicate an interest in sharing surplus produce grown on their property with local foodbanks as well as develop programming related food access and waste diversion (i.e. canning and preservation workshops).
Duties & Responsibilities
- To gather data on fruit trees, vegetable gardens
- To distribute information on the project, including promotional and outreach materials
- To initiate contact with residents in single-family homes by walking through the neighbourhood
- To gather, sort, package and redistribute produce to members of the community
- To keep accurate records to maintain the integrity of research findings
- To assist residents with properly completing any surveys, forms or questionnaires.
- To create, share and post content for social media and engage with followers
- To support with the planning and delivery of a food waste diversion workshop
Qualifications
- Strong, demonstrable knowledge and experience in gathering data and research through surveys
- Excellent organizational skills, motivation, and ability to work productively without direct supervision
- Excellent planning skills and creative vision, coupled with the ability to get things done
- A personal approach to your work that is engaging, respectful, and fun
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to function in a team setting
- Commitment to social change
- An understanding of issues affecting the diverse populations of Rexdale and Central Etobicoke, including general issues affecting low-income communities
- Experience in planning and delivering successful formal/informal programming for children/youth in a summer camp or after-school program setting
- Interpersonal and leadership skills
- Able to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Self-organize and self-motivate to work productively
- Fluency in a second language is an asset.
