Community Enhancement- Children’s Program Assistant

The Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds. RCHC is recruiting for a part –time Children’s Program Worker, a component of the Community Enhancement Program, to help achieve increased capacity, cohesiveness and leadership in children in the Burnhamthorpe/427 community in the form of an after-school program.

This position is dedicated to assisting in ensuring the successful planning, implementing, facilitating and evaluating of the Children’s After School program and related individual supports provided to children and families participating in the after-school program. This position liaises with school staff to develop partnerships and networks both inside and outside the community that support participants in reaching their full potential. This position also includes the planning, organizing and facilitating community events.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the Planning, implementing and facilitating:
    • Weekly After-School Programs for children aged 6-12
    • March Break Camp Programming
    • Summer Camp Programming
    • Community Events
  • Assist in organizing student and parent orientations and other special events
  • Support After School Program activities, March Break and Summer Programs
  • Help coordinate special events, celebrations and field trips
  • Assist the Children’s Worker with daily attendance, maintaining statistics of individual information and other daily administrative related tasks.
  • Develop and implement an outreach plan to recruit and register children
  • Support program staff, volunteers and participants as required
  • Provide regular reports to the Program Worker and Manager of Youth and Family Services to reflect goals and timelines of the program
  • Create promotional material, help set up and maintain virtual platforms and in-person programs
  • Create virtual and in-person program content, tools and resources
  • Help develop and implement program evaluation tools
  • Assist in maintaining a tidy and safe program environment.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings /trainings as required
  • Assist the Children’s Program Worker with other duties as required
  • Support other programs of the Youth and Family Services department as needed
  • Able to work flexible hours: including evenings and weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

In addition:

  • Contribute to the RCHC’s efforts to secure and maximize resources for current and new programs, services and activities.
  • participate in the RCHC’s efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development
  • Contribute to the RCHC’s activities to collect, analyze and report on data and relevant information, and participate in research.
  • Respect and value the diversity of the community and individuals
  • Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality as per RCHC’s policies

Qualifications and Assets:

  • Experience working directly with school-aged children in a program or community-based setting
  • At least one year of experience supporting the planning and implementation of programs for children of diverse cultures
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills
  • Basic English language and verbal skills
  • Great time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be open-minded and non-judgmental, and willing to learn.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills
  • A commitment to social change
  • Ability to work effectively with children and adults, including parents, volunteers, placement students, school teachers and other school staff, as well as other educational professionals
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Communication skills, both oral and written, for a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of the Central Etobicoke Community an asset
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset
  • Bilingual in French and English, considered an asset
  • Flexible hours, particularly evenings
  • Ability to work within the values, goals, mission and policies of the RCHC

NOTE:

  • A criminal record check will be required

Rate of Pay: $19.73 plus 4% vacation pay.

Hours: 14 per week

Contract Length: March 31, 2027

Starting date:  ASAP

Status: Non-unionized
