Prioritization for Molecular Testing for COVID-19 Infection (Effective April 11th, 2022 Ontario Health): 

For COVID-19 molecular testing, these are the groups/populations eligible and prioritized:

Symptomatic individuals who are:

  • Immunocompromised
  • 70 and older
  • 60 and older who had less than three COVID-19 vaccine doses
  • 18 and older who had less than three COVID-19 vaccine doses and suffer from at least one of the following conditions:
    • Diabetes
    • Obesity (BMI ≥ 30kg/m2)
    • Cerebral palsy
    • Intellectual and/or behavioral disability
    • Heart disease, hypertension, or congestive heart failure
    • Chronic respiratory disease, including cystic fibrosis
    • Sickle cell disease
    • Moderate to severe liver disease (e.g., Child-Pugh Class B or Cirrhosis)
    • Moderate to severe kidney disease (eGFR ⟨ 60mL/min)

Other people at high risk:

  • Pregnant people
  • Patient-facing healthcare professionals
  • Staff, workers, residents, volunteers, and care providers in high-risk zones, which include:
    • Hospitals (including continuing care and paramedics facilities)
    • Communal/shared living facilities housing medically vulnerable individuals, like:
    • Long-term homes
    • Group homes
    • Retirement facilities
    • First Nation eldercare lodges
    • Shelters
    • Hospice centers
    • Correctional institutions
    • Hospital universities
  • Household members of the above individuals
  • Home and community care providers/staff members
  • Students and staff in Provincial and Demonstration Schools
  • Elementary and secondary students and staff
  • International agriculture workers in communal/shared living settings
  • Patients seeking urgent medical care (under the supervision and recommendation of their attending physician)
  • Under-housed or homeless populations
  • First responders, like:
    • Paramedics
    • Policemen/women
    • Firefighters
  • Other outpatients needing the diagnostic care for better care delivery and receipt
