Rexdale Community Health Centre is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, settlement and community development activities for women, families, youth, adults, and seniors of diverse cultures. The Centre is currently seeking Casual on Call Relief Medical Secretaries. As a member of the Centre’s interdisciplinary team, the Medical Secretary will perform general administrative duties related to clinical programs and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides quality customer service to clients and the public
- Provides clerical and administrative services to the clinical program
- Creates files and maintains an efficient filing system, g. managing, preparing, maintaining, updating, tracking and filing manually and electronically as required
- Maintains electronic record system, e.g. developing templates, providing backup
- Schedules client appointments, ensures client registration, and regularly updates client information
- Operates telephone system, e.g. answering incoming calls, directing to appropriate personnel and processing messages
- Makes appropriate referral to other health services, e.g. other CHCs, hospitals, specialists, diagnostic tests, and informs client of appointment time.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality
- Participates in the planning and implementation of Centre-wide programs and activities as designated by the staff team
QUALIFICATIONS AND ASSETS:
- Medical secretary certificate or equivalent, or two years’ related experience in a health care setting and/or community-based setting
- Familiarity with electronic medical record, e.g. P.S.S. (Practice Suite Solutions) is an asset
- Excellent customer service skills and knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) customer service standards
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, be flexible and be organized
- Knowledge of Personal Health Information Privacy Act, Consent of Information / Records of Information and Medical Records Management
- Excellent telephone manner and communication skills
- Proficient with computer software, including MS Office, Internet and email
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of the Rexdale community
- Ability to speak a second language (e.g. French, Spanish, Punjabi, and Somali) will be an asset.
Salary Range: $22.73 per hour
Hours per week: On Call, up to 14 hours per week
Status: Non-unionized position
Work site: Various RCHC sites, Etobicoke
