The Rexdale Community Health Centre (the “Centre”) is a multi-service organization providing primary health care, settlement services, community support, health promotion, and community development programs to a diverse population, with a focus on women, families, youth, and seniors.
We are currently recruiting a part-time Chiropodist to join our Inter-professional Primary Care Team (IPCT), part of a broader initiative to expand access to comprehensive, team-based care in the community.
The IPCT-Chiropodist plays an essential role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred foot and lower limb care to individuals and families in marginalized communities. As a member of the inter-professional team, the Chiropodist provides assessment, treatment, education, and prevention strategies to help clients manage acute and chronic foot conditions, reduce risks such as infection or amputation, and maintain mobility and independence. This position requires a strong commitment to culturally competent care, collaboration across disciplines, and a passion for serving underserved communities. The role includes working across multiple Centre and partner locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments, diagnoses, treatments, and health education/counseling for foot care, in accordance with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario standards.
- Develop and implement community-based chiropody health promotion activities.
- Design, manufacture, and follow up on orthotics as therapeutic and palliative treatments.
- Maintain chiropody areas, resources, materials, and equipment.
- Participate in the development of protocols and procedures to enhance client services and staff efficiency.
- Maintain accurate medical records and participate in chart reviews.
- Ensure efficient clinic operation through regular updates of statistical records, supply orders, and inventory management.
- Collaborate with other Centre services and participate in team-based approaches to community health issues.
Qualifications:
- Degree from an accredited school of chiropody
- Current registration with the College of Chiropodists of Ontario without limitations.
- Proficiency in chiropody/podiatry theory and practice, including orthotics.
- At least three years of experience in a community health or hospital setting.
- Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation is an asset.
- Proficiency in computer use and various software applications.
- Excellent teamwork, written, and oral communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, medical record procedures, and current health and safety practices.
- Familiarity with EMR software systems (e.g., Practice Suite Solutions – PSS).
- Sensitivity to the health issues of a diverse community.
- Ability to speak a second language (e.g. French, Somali, Twi, Yoruba, Igbo, etc.) is an asset.
- Availability to work the occasional evening and Saturdays
- Knowledge of the Rexdale area is an asset.
Salary: $37.55- $45.24 per hour based on experience plus HOOPP and Benefits
Hours per week: 17.5 hours
Starting date: ASAP
Status: Non-unionized position
